Holotype locality: near Wheeler, at the mouth of Jackass Creek (locally called Wolf Creek), Mendocina County, California; (Johansen 1971: 243) Holotype (tetrasporangial): P.C. Silva, H.W. Johansen & A.Q. Howard 9481; 11 JUne 1968; on tops of rocks in the middle and lower intertidal zones exposed to surf; UC; (Johansen 1971: 243) Notes: Holtype: UC 1499979 (Martone et al. 2012).
