Lectotype locality: Pescadero Point, Monterey County, California; (Cho, Boo & Hansen 2002: 559) Lectotype (designated by Cho & al. 2002): N.L. Gardner; May 1916; On rocks and algae in the lower littoral; LD; 558, 559 (Cho, Boo & Hansen 2002) Notes: Cho et al. (2002: 558) note that there are two thalli (tetrasporangial) attached on the herbarium sheet of PBA 45, no. 2248, at LD. They designate these two thalli as the lectotype. Isotypes in UC (UC 2076252) and NY.
