Distributional notes
This species was introduced accidentally, probably via oysters from Japan, into the Mediterranean (Verlaque et al. 2015: 187), being first found in the Etang de Thau (France) in 1994. - (05 November 2015) - M.D. Guiry
According to Shibneva et al. (2020: 81), species of the genus Ahnfeltiopsis sensu stricto do not occur in the seas of the Russian Far East, and the algae previously identified as 'A. flabelliformis' should be attributed to the genus Besa as B. japonica and B. divarica, including B. divaricata f. ahnfeltioides. - (28 March 2021) - G.M. Guiry
