Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Chrysymenia is Chrysymenia ventricosa (J.V.Lamouroux) J.Agardh.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Botryocladia wrightii (Harvey) W.E.Schmidt, D.L.Ballantine & Fredericq.

Distributional note
This species was introduced accidentally, probably via oysters from Japan, into the Mediterranean (Verlaque et al. 2015: 227), being first found in the Etang de Thau (France) in 1978. It has also been reported adventive in the NE Atlantic north to the south coast of England (Bunker 2014) and the west coast of Ireland (Roden pers. comm.).
