Distributional note
This entity was widely reported from warm seas as Hypnea esperi. It has also been introduced into the Mediterranean, where it was first found in Israel prior to 1972. It also occurs in Greece (Verlaque et al. 2015: 143). - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
Habitat notes
[Greece]. Upper sublittoral zone of sheltered rocky shores; epilithic but usually entangled and epiphytic on other algae, such as Cystoseira compressa and Halopteris scoparia; associated flora include other epiphytes, such as Ceramium spp., Herposiphonia secunda, Jania rubens and Polysiphonia spp.; alien species Caulerpa racemosa var. cylindracea and Lophocladia lallemandii on nearby shores (Tsiamis & Verlaque (2011). - (01 November 2012) - G.M.
