Kuetzingiella Kornmann, 1956

Holotype species: Kuetzingiella battersii (Bornet ex Sauvageau) Kornmann

Original publication and holotype designation: Kornmann, P. (1956). Ectocarpaceen-Studien IV Herponema, Kützingiella nov. gen., Farloweilla nov. gen. Helgolander Wissenschaftliche Meeresuntersuchungen 5: 292-325.

Description: This genus forms woolly coverings on for example Taonia atomaria. The basal part is a syntagmatic, monostromatic disc. The cells are isodiametric and irregular in outline without any radial organization of the cells. One of the characteristic features of this genus is that sessile or shortly-stalked plurilocular sporangia develop prior to the formation of erect filaments. The erect filaments are sparsely branched or unbranched and the cells contain several disc-shaped chloroplasts. Plurilocular sporangia are sessile and develop laterally on the erect filaments sometimes together with sessile or stalked (1 cell) unilocular sporangia. The life history is unknown.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
