Description: Plant to 14 cm high, axes monosiphonous, richly branched, corticated with rhizoidal filaments bearing short external horizontal branches. Procarp and carposporophytes as for Callithamnion. Polyspores.

Taxonomic status: This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Callithamnion.

Most recent taxonomic treatment adopted: Kylin, H. (1956). Die Gattungen der Rhodophyceen. pp. i-xv, 1-673, 458 figs. Lund: C.W.K. Gleerups.

Comments: All species from the Atlantic ocean recorded respectively from Cape of Good Hope, Tristan da Cunha I. and Brazil (Sao Paulo State). Separation from Callithamnion may be justified on basis of polyspores.
