Description: Branched pseudofilaments, composed of spherical or elliptical cells, each with several reddish-violet, parietal, discoid to band-shaped chloroplasts without pyrenoids. Cells 5.5-15 x 3.5-10 µm. Apical and intercalary cell division. Asexual reproduction by endospores; vegetative propagation by fragmentation. Sexual reproduction not observed.
