Description: Leaves distichous, lacking ligula, 1.25-1.75 cm wide, not differentiated into petiole and blade; rhizome 1 cm thick, covered with persistent black strands, roots cord like. Numerous flowers in male inflorescence, flower buds detaching before flowering and floating to surface, pollen grains free
