Original publication and holotype designation: Hooker, W.J. (1844). Icones plantarum; or figures, with brief descriptive characters and remarks of new or rare plants slected from the aithor's herbarium. Vol. III. New series or Vol. VII of the entire work [Fasc. 7]. pp. [i]-vii, pls DCI-DCC [with text]. London & Paris: Hippolyte Ballière.
Description: Thallus erect, to 30 cm, axes irregularly branched, densely corticated with inner filaments and small, irregular surface cells. Branchlets ecorticate, dichotomously or subdichotomously branched fromed singly from axial cells, usually lost or remaining as fine tufts at branch tips. Procarps as in Callithamnion with 4-celled carpogonial branch on one of a pair of pericentral cells each producing an auxiliary cell leading to carposporophyte with rounded groups of carposporangia. Spermatangial clusters on cells of branchlets. Tetrasporangia sessile on branchlet cells, tetrahedrally divided.

Taxonomic status: This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Carpothamnion.

Comments: Known only from southern Australia and east coast of Africa.
