Description: Differs from the genus Nematodinium Kofoid and Swezy (1921) by a posterior tentacle. Sournia (1986) regard the very cursory described genus as not distinct on genus level and regards it as later synonym of Nematodinium, see there. The validity of the genus description can be questioned. Greuet (1973) cites on p. 463 as type species of his new genus N. tentaculoides, on p. 466 he designates N. vigilans as type species. For the first species he gives no description but only a figure, for the second he did not cite the basionym. In addition, he replaces the earlier proposed (where?) name Nematopsis by Nematopsides, further as the later homonym of Nematopsis A. Schneider (1892). Habitat: Marine plankton.

Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
