Comments: Following the recent observations that many holococcolithophores are phases in the life cycles of heterococcolithophores, the family Calyptrosphaeraceae is now known to be polyphyletic, so Jordan et al. (2005) recommend abandoning its use. However, until all or most holococcolith-bearing taxa can be transferred into other existing families, ithey consider it wise to keep them together. Heimdal (1997: 752) records this genus as a member of the Order Coccosphaerales, Family Calyptrosphaeraceae.
