Holotype species: Ephemera planamembranacea (Hendey) Paddock
Description: Cells solitary, membranaceous; plastids numerous and cocciform. Valves fusiform with acute apices, much flattened transapically. Valve face extremely vaulted with unequal faces, delicately striated; striae areolate, areolae with longitudinally oriented slit-like foramina. Raphe straight, finned and lacking fibulae; helictoglossa large and with rounded terminal pores. Girdle hyaline. Marine, planktonic from the North Atlantic.
