Original publication and holotype designation: Wollaston, E.M. (1968). Morphology and taxonomy of southern Australian genera of Crouanieae Schmitz (Ceramiaceae, Rhodophyta). Australian Journal of Botany 16: 217-417, 42 figs, 10 pls, 1 table.
Description: Thallus to 15 cm, axes flattened, densely corticated with rhizoids, branching alternate-distichous, each cell bearing a whorl of 4 determinate branchlets terminated by filaments 2-10 cells long. Procarps and carposporophytes near apices of branchlets, carpogonial branch 4-celled, auxiliary cell cut off from supporting cell leading to development of carposporophyte with rounded groups of carposporangia. Spermatangia unknown. Tetrasporangia sessile on outer cells of branchlets, tetrahedrally-divided.
