Hommersandiophycus S.-M.Lin & J.M.Huisman, 2014
Holotype species: Hommersandiophycus clavatus (Yamada) Showe M.Lin & Huisman
Original publication and holotype designation: Lin, S.-M., Huisman, J.M. & Ballantine, D.L. (2014). Revisiting the systematics of Ganonema (Liagoraceae, Rhodophyta) with emphasis on species from the northwest Pacific Ocean. Phycologia 53(1): 37-51.
Description: Thalli erect, up to 12 (-20) cm in height, arising from a discoid holdfast, lightly to heavily calcified, with one to a few primary axes bearing lateral branches irregularly, branching up to five or six orders. Upper cells of assimilatory filaments barrelshaped to short and tubular, sometimes with a few terminal hairs, lower cells becoming slender. Gametophytes monoecious or dioecious. Spermatangia initiated from lateral, adventitious spermatangial parental cells in upper parts of assimilatory filaments and formed in complex cluster. Carpogonial branches three or four celled, borne laterally on inner cortical cells, gonimoblast initials cut off transversely from the fertilised carpogonia, primary gonimoblast filaments cut off obliquely and surrounding by involucral filaments produced from inner cortical cells adjacent to the supporting cell, the hypogynous cell not inflated, width of pit connections broadened among cells of carpogonial branches but no fusion cell formed, gonimoblasts spherical and compact, loosely surrounded by involucral filaments.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera,
organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA)
and intended to be published in CD format.
These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above.
The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.
Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
