Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Conferva is Conferva rupestris Linnaeus.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Chaetomorpha melagonium (F.Weber & D.Mohr) Kützing.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), with dark reproductive structures (Stearn 1983).
