Lectotype locality: "Indica" (probably Jamaica); (Silva & al. 1996: 687) Notes: Silva et al. (1996) recommend consulting Børgesen (1914a: 9) for more information on the lectotype locality of this species.

Participle (Latin), swimming, floating on or under the surface of the water (Stearn 1983).
