Nomenclatural note
Zanardini (1843: 47-48) notes: "Giacobbe Agardh (Alg. mar. medit. et adr., p. 152) colloca dubbio samente questa specie fra le Gracilariae, dalle quali sembrami distinta pei caratteri offerti dalla struttura della fronda. Quantunque io non possa aggiungere illustrazione alcuna intorno ai caratteri del frutto tuttora ignoto, parmi nondimeno doversi proporre l'istituzione del genere distinto, al quale riporto dubbiosamente le seguenti specie, la di cui fruttificazione è ancora sconosciuta; riguardo però alla struttura della fronda meglio a questo che ad altro genere si avvicinano." [Jacob Agardh (Alg. mar. med. et adr., P. 152) places doubt this species among the Gracilariae, from which I seem to be distinguished by the characteristics offered by the structure of the frond. Though I can not add any illustration about the characteristics of the fruit still unknown, I must, however, have to propose the establishment of the distinct genus, to which I doubtfully carry the following species, the fruit of which is still unknown; but with regard to the structure of the frond, this is better than anything else approaches.] - (15 November 2017) - M.D. Guiry
