Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Phyllotylus is Phyllotylus membranifolius (Goodenough & Woodward) Kützing.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Phyllophora sicula (Kützing) Guiry & L.M.Irvine.
Source of Synonymy

Type Information
Type locality: "Hab ad littora Europae superioris." [Northern Europe]; (Agardh 1849: 88) Lectotype: BM; (Newroth & Taylor 1971) Notes: Newroth & Taylor (1971: 95) note that the specimen designated by Mrs L.M. Irvine as the 'holotype' of Fucus membranifolius var. roseus Turner and hence of P. palmettoides J. Agardh, is clearly the specimen illustrated by Turner (1809, Tab. 74, fig. m).
