The type species (lectotype) of the genus Corallina is Corallina officinalis Linnaeus.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Chamaedoris peniculum (J.Ellis & Solander) Kuntze.

Lectotype locality: "This is found in the American seas, many growing together, particularly near the Bahama islands."; (Ellis & Solander 1786: 127) Lectotype (figures in Ellis; designated by Leliaert & al. 2007: 718): (Leliaert & al. 2007: 718) Notes: Leliaert et al. (2007: 718) note that, according to Dixon (1960: 28-31), the collections of John Ellis are lost and designate the figures as lectotype.
