This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Boreolithothamnion glaciale (Kjellman) P.W.Gabrielson, Maneveldt, Hughey & V.Peña.

Type locality: Cumbrae, Scotland; (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 430) Holotype: E.A.L.Batters; viii. 1891; collection depth: 7 fathoms; viii. 1891; TRH; C10-3098 (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 429) Notes: "Flagged as the type of L. battersii but listed under L. granii in Adey & Lebednik 1967: 78, who mistakenly place the collection locality in the 'Republic of Ireland' and list the collector as ‘Batlers’]..." (Woelkering et al. 2005: 430).
