The type species (holotype) of the genus Enteromorpha is Enteromorpha intestinalis (Linnaeus) Nees.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ulva hookeriana (Kützing) H.S.Hayden, Blomster, Maggs, P.C.Silva, Stanhope & Waaland.
