This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ceramium derbesii Solier ex Kützing.

Nomenclatural note
"This species was described from Acitrezza (Catania, Italy) by Ardissone (1864: 32) who later illustrated it (Ardissone (1867: 77, pl. III/7-9).
