Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Wittrockiella is Wittrockiella paradoxa Wille.

This name is of an entity that is currently accepted taxonomically.
Type Information
Type locality: Stanmore Bay (near Auckland), New Zealand; (Womersley 1984: 213) Notes: According to Womersley (1984: 213) the type was not located in AK. According to Hoek et al. (1984: 41 fide Dr. A.E. Wright), the type of this species is neither present in AK nor in the Univ. of Auckland herbarium. They propose to nominate as a neotype a specimen from Uriti, Russell, New Zealand, collected by V.W. Lindauer (6 December 1948), and distributed as No. 331 in the 'Algae Nova-Zelandicae Exsiccatae', and which is preserved in ADU (A17848); isoneotypes: herb of Univ. of Auckland; L. Neotype collected from sunnny side of a culvert, with a small muddy stream, growing near high water mark.
