The type species (holotype) of the genus Ganonema is Ganonema farinosum (J.V.Lamouroux) K.-C.Fan & Yung C.Wang.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Hommersandiophycus samaensis (C.K.Tseng) Showe M.Lin & Huisman.
