Taxonomic note
Although Papenfuss (1950) identified this alga with the entity currently known as Pterocladiella capillacea, Dixon (1960) pointed out that the description in the first edition of Hudson'’s Flora anglica referred to his material as being “membranous”, which this entity is not. No material of Hudson’'s plant has been found to date and the name cannot therefore be attributed. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
