Taxonomic note
According to Athanasiadis (2009), A. nipponicum is a heterotypic synonym of A. pectinatum, and the correct name of the species currently passing under the name A. nipponicum should be A. hubbsii. - (26 February 2013) - G.M. Guiry

Distributional note
Cho et al. (2006) record that the adventive plants reported by Curiel et al. (1996, 1998) as A. pectinatum from the Venice Lagoon represent this species. It was first found in first found in the Etang de Thau (France) around 1988 (Verlaque et al. 2015: 123). Further adventive populations are decribed by Cho et al. (2006) from North Carolina and from the Pacific Coast of North America (California). - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
