Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Antithamnion is Antithamnion cruciatum (C.Agardh) Nägeli.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Antithamnionella spirographidis (Schiffner) E.M.Wollaston.

Type Information
Type locality: Friday Harbor Docks, San Juan Island, Washington; (Dawson 1962: 16) Lectotype: H. Kylin; 18/7/1924; LD; (Athanasiadis 1996: 122) Notes: Dawson (1962: 15) notes that the type consists of a collection by Kylin without designation, probably in the Agardh Herbarium, Lund, Sweden. He also notes that it was found on old Laminaria.
