The type species (holotype) of the genus Chrysochromulina is Chrysochromulina parva Lackey.

Type Information
Type locality: Jiaozhou Bay, Yellow Sea (35º12'N, 120º10'E); (Yan Hu & al. 2005: 53) Holotype: Figs 1-5 (epitype) 15 November 2001; Surface water sample (30.0 psu, 15.1ºC); (Yan Hu & al. 2005: 53)

Description
Cells spherical to subspherical, 3.0-6.0 microns in diameter. Two uuequal flagella, the shorter 8-12 microns in length, the longer 22-30 microns in length, hetrodynamic. Haptonema 6-10 microns long when fully extended. Two types of flat, circular scales cover the cell in multiple layers. Larger scales 0.70-0.85 microns in diameter, without a marginal rim; the proximal surface patterned with 52-60 radiating ribs and a central cruciform structure. The distal surface is patterned with concentric rings. Smaller scales similar to larger scales, 0.38-0.45 microns in diameter, patterned with 28-30 radiating ribs on the proximal surface.
