Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Rhodymenia pseudopalmata (J.V.Lamouroux) P.C.Silva.

Type locality: Hampshire, England; (Dixon & Irvine 1977: 199) Notes: "In accord with ICN Art. 7.4, the nomenclatural type of F. bifidus Hudson is also the nomenclatural type of the replacement name Bifida divaricata Stackhouse (Stackhouse 1809: 97) and its subsequent combination Rhodophyllis divaricata (Stackhouse) Papenfuss (Papenfuss 1950: 190)." Adjective (Latin), divaricate, spreading at a wide angle (Stearn 1983).
