This is the type species (holotype) of the genus Verrucophora.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pseudochattonella farcimen (Eikrem, Edvardsen & J.Throndsen) Eikrem.

General Environment
This is a marine species.
Description
Cells long, cylindrical, oval, spherical, or pear shaped, sometimes with antapical trailing cytoplasmic filament; with two apically inserted unequal flagella; long anteriorly directed flagellum carrying tripartite hairs with single terminal filament about half the length of hair; short flagellum tapering. Cells 5-50 microns and 4-17 microns wide; length of long flagellum 9-30 microns, short flagellum 2-7 microns exclusive of tapering part that measures 1.0-3.5 microns. Single, branching nucleus located in anterior part of cell. Prominent nucleolus. Basal bodies located in depression of nucleus. Microtubular roots present. Nucleotide sequences for the SSU and LSU rDNA distinct.
