The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Chondracanthus acicularis (Roth) Fredericq.

Type locality: "In variis submarinis corporibus." [presumably the Adriatic Sea]; (Wulfen 1803: 63) Notes: Lectotype: Wulfen's description, in the absence of material (Dixon & Irvine 1977: 237). An epitype for this lectotype would be useful.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective B (Latin), acicular, i.e., narrow, stiff, pointed like a needle (Stearn 1983).
