Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Sargassum acinarium (Linnaeus) Setchell.

Type Information
Syntype localities: "Habitat in Italia & Oceano australiori"; (Linnaeus 1753: 1160) Notes: Silva , Basson & Moe (1996) recommmend consulting Setchell (1933: 209-210) for more information on the lectotype locality of this species.
