The type species (lectotype) of the genus Dumontia is Dumontia incrassata (O.F.Müller) J.V.Lamouroux.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Scinaia interrupta (A.P.de Candolle) M.J.Wynne.

Source of Synonymy
Wynne, M.J. (1989). Scinaia interrupta (A. DC.) comb. nov., an older name for S. turgida Chemin, and S. pseudocrispa (Clemente) comb. nov., an older name for S. forcellata Biv.-Bern. (Galaxauraceae, Rhodophyta). Candollea 44: 129-136, 4 figs.
