Illegitimate: Womersley (1987) cites the authority for this name as (Roth) Le Jolis, but Ceramium confervoides Roth (1797) was superfluous and therefore illegitimate at the time of publication; Ectocarpus confervoides Le Jolis is thus treated here as a new name but is a later homonym of Ectocarpus confervoides Harvey, 1855. - (11 May 2006) - G.M.
