Taxonomic note
This entity is classically treated as a synonym of Porphyra umbilicalis but as the coinchocelis-phases of many species of Porphyra and Bangia (and other shellboring algae such as Scinaia) are not easily distinguished and the enity cannot therefore be associated with any particular species (M.D. Guiry, 4 May 2004). - (11 May 2006) - G.M.
