The type species (lectotype) of the genus Chrysymenia is Chrysymenia ventricosa (J.V.Lamouroux) J.Agardh.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Lomentaria orcadensis (Harvey) Collins.

Adjective (Latin), rose-coloured (Stearn 1983).
