Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Fauchea is Fauchea repens (C.Agardh) Montagne & Bory.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Asteromenia peltata (W.R.Taylor) Huisman & A.J.K.Millar.
Source of Synonymy
Huisman, J.M. & Millar, A.J.K. (1996). Asteromenia (Rhodymeniaceae, Rhodymeniales), a new red algal genus based on Fauchea peltata. Journal of Phycology 32: 138-145, 17 figs, 1 table.

Type locality: Isla Tortuga, Venezuela; (Taylor 1942: 113) Lectotype: 21 April 1939; dredged from 38-40m depth on a bottom of dead coral, sta. A44. No. 39-559; UC; LAM 500206 (Huisman & Millar 1996: 139) Notes: Herbarium Allan Hancock Foundation No. 6969. See Saunders et al. (2006: 1590) regarding the identity of specimens on the lectotype sheet.
