Type locality: "... depth of 0.5 m, Santa Maria, Bahía de Ne(n)guanje, Colombia (latitude 11.3350°, longitude -74.0521°) by R. Schnetter in February 1990. Unialgal cultures were obtained therefrom in August 1994 by R. Schnetter."; (Schmidt & al. 2012: 552)
