Type Information
Type locality: "...legit ad rotam molendinariam in Alsatia." [Alsace, France]; (Roth 1797: 180) Neotype (designated by Necchi 1993 from Bremen, Germany): Ludolph Christian Treviranus; watermill; B; 28258 (Necchi, Sheath & Cole 1993) Notes: Necchi & Zucchi (1995) give the following data: "Germany, Bremen near to Molendinas, L. Treviranus, B 28258" and they note that a neotype was designated by Necchi et al. (1993). It appears that the neotype specimen was collected by Ludolph Christian Treviranus (18 September 1779 in Bremen – 6 May 1864 in Bonn) was a German botanist born in Bremen. He was a younger brother to naturalist Gottfried Reinhold Treviranus (1776–1837). "moledina" is Latin for watermills ("molendina aquaticum").
