The type species (holotype) of the genus Surirella is Surirella striatula Turpin.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Iconella tenacis (Bramburger & P.B.Hamilton) D.Kapustin & Kulikovskiy.

Type locality: Indonesia: Sulawesi Island: Lake Towuti; (Index Nominum Algarum) Holotype: BRM; 2582 (Bramberger et al. 2006: 43) Notes: Syntype: CANA 71037 (circled specimen). Holotype: CANA 71037, lake Towuti (Kapustin & Kulikovskiy, 2018: 243).
