Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Chondrus is Chondrus crispus Stackhouse.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ahnfeltiopsis devoniensis (Greville) P.C.Silva & DeCew.
Type Information
Syntype localities: Golf von Biscaya: Endress! (v.Martens!). Ireland: Shuttleworth!; Notes: No more precise locality is known in Ireland. Shuttleworth is known to have been in Renvyl, Co. Galway in July, 1832 (M.E. Mitchell, pers. comm., Nov. 2001) and he appears to have sent several Irish specimens to Kützing which may have included this entity.
