The type species (lectotype) of the genus Laurencia is Laurencia obtusa (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Chondria capillaris (Hudson) M.J.Wynne.

Syntype localities: "On the Southern coasts, near Christ Church Hants. At Weymouth. Near Margate. Summer."; (Withering 1796: 117) Lectotype: BM; (Gordon-Mills 1987: 238) Notes: Gordon-Mills (1987:238) effective lectotypified this name with a specimen in BM annotated "The Lookout" Weymouth, Dorset, England, collected by Samuel Goodenough. Gordon-Mills used the term "Holotype" on p. 238 but also on the same page says "accepted as the type...".
