"Named for Kevin Thiele, formerly curator of the Western Australian Herbarium (2006–2015), as acknowledgement of his considerable support to the author during this study."

Type locality: "between Malus and Gidley Islands, Dampier Archipelago, W.A., 20°28.98'S, 116°44.1'E" [Australia] (Huisman 2018: 496). Holotype: R.D.Royce 2092; 1 June 1960; dredged in 6 fathoms [c. 11 m] depth. PERTH 04002393 (Huisman 2018: 496).
