Nomenclatural note
Eubank (1946) proposed treating Caulerpa racemosa var. chemnitzia as a taxonomic synonym of C. racemosa var. turbinata (J.Agardh) Eubank, and that treatment has been followed by later workers. J.Agardh's var. turbinata dates to 1837. Within Fucus chemnitzia Esper, Turner (Fuci, vol. IV, 1819: 8) recognized ß [= var.] peltata (J.V. Lamouroux) Turner. By Turner's recognition of var. peltata, he automatically created Fucus chemnitzia Esper var. chemnitzia (Turner, 1819), and therefore var. chemnitzia has priority over var. turbinata J. Agardh (1837). Submitted by M.J Wynne (28 Feb. 2012). - (28 February 2012) - M.D. Guiry
