Type locality: south of Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain (39°16.86'N, 2°41.94'E); (Rodríguez-Prieto & al. 2019: 395) Holotype (monoecious gametophyte): C. Rodríguez-Prieto; 19 July 2012; detritic bottom, at 64.9 m depth; HGI; HGI-A 13439 (Rodríguez-Prieto & al. 2019: 395, fig. 2) Notes: Isotype: HGI, HGI-A13377 and HGI-A 13438.

Adjective (Latin), Mediterranean Sea (Stearn 1983).
