Taxonomic note
"According to Levring (1937, Zur Kenntnis der Algenflora der norwegischen Westkfiste. Lunds Univ. Arsskr., p. 16, footnote), Characium marinum Kjellman is a juvenile stage of Cladophora. Kornmann & Sahling (1983) agreed with this view and based on culture observations also concluded that Characium hagmeierianum O.C. Schmidt (1938) is a juvenile stage of Chaetomorpha aerea."
