Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Yonagunia maillardii (Montagne & Maillardet) Showe M.Lin, Y.-C.Chuang & De Cleck.

Type locality: Réunion; (Montagne & Millardet 1862: 8) Lectotype : PC; 0060247 (Lin & al. 2020: 1544, fig. 3a) Notes: Lectotype designated based on Montagne's collection number 2 (Montagne & Millardet 1862: 8). Collections 2 and 19 were cited by Montagne & Millardet (1862: 8).

Eponomy
"Nous dédions cette algue, la plus curieuse de la collection, à M.L. Maillard...".
