Type locality: Ensenada de San Franciso, Sonora, Mexico.; (Dawson 1961: 209) Holotype: Dawson 1903; May 18, 1946.; Upper sublitoral rocks; Herb. A. Hannock Foundation; 4949 (Dawson 1961: 209) Notes: Gulf of Calif.-Several collections from the vicinity of Guaymas Sonora; D.18634, Isla Tortuga; D.18699, Isla Ildefonso; D. 18777, outer Puerto Escondido.
Juvenile specimens suggestive of this species have been found near Punto Tosco, Isla Margarita, on the Pacific Coast of Baja California (D. 13476).
