Type Species
A type species for this genus does not appear to have been designated.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Mesophyllum lichenoides (J.Ellis) Me.Lemoine.

Type Information
Type locality: "Locus: Mare Numidicum & Atlanticum" [Numidian Sea (Algeria) and Atlantic]; (Pallas 1766: 264) Notes: Type: not designated (Woelkerling 1998c: 248, Athanasiadis 1999: 243). There is no syntype material in TRH Woelkering et al. (2005: 258). It crosses one's mind that if no type has been designated it is not possible to say that this name is synonymous with Mesophyllum lichenoides, as widely accepted, given the lack of reliability in identification of crustose corallines. Several pre-Linnaean names are cited by Pallas.

General Environment
This is a marine species.

Created: 22 July 1999 by M.D. Guiry.
